Case Study – East Acton Court, West London
Previous System
The existing roof membrane consisted of a 20mm asphalt coating with a solar reflective paint covering.
This had perished over the years due to lack of maintenance and there were splits in the asphalt, which allowed water to ingress into the properties below.
The Problem
The existing asphalt was old and lost its ability to move thermally causing it to crack and split. The client wanted to increase the U value to the property to save on heat loss and reduce rising heating bills.
Money was not available for a full strip up and relay so an overcoat option was offered.
The Solution
This consisted of a new self-adhesive vapour control layer, followed by a 100mm PIR flat board insulation topped with a self-adhesive carrier membrane and 15 year liquid coating system.
All works were cold applied reducing the hot works risk and 757m² was completed over a 4 week programme reducing prolonged inconvenience to the residents.
